What does it feel like to be in need of rescue? It's a feeling of hopelessness, that all is lost or on the verge of being lost, of being overwhelmed by the enormity of the task and fast approaching deadlines, that there is too much to do and not enough time to get it all done. It feels like the world is crashing in.
I don't know if Jack felt that way or not. After all, he was only eight weeks old when he needed to be rescued. His mother and siblings were all gone, he was bedraggled, matted, flea-bitten, and hungry. Would we take him in? Absolutely, even though he would be Cat No. 5 in our menagerie. You can't just leave a baby out there to fend for itself, can you?
We brought Jack into our family, gave him a bath, took care of the fleas, took him to the vet for a checkup, gave him nourishment and companionship, and he has flourished. As the days and weeks passed, Jack found his place in the world. He is a success story!
